Men in Black III 3D 2012: Movie Review

Let's rewind history. Shall we! It's been a decade since the Men in Black (MIB) put on their suits for the last time ever: first in 1997 and then in 2002.  So it won't really be a bad idea to brush up a little on why we liked (and missed) the secret society of protectors. Well, the MIB gave us good comedy, great special effects, inspiring performances, and ample action. Welcome to Circa 2012 and nothing much seems to have changed.
There's Agent J (Will Smith) who still gives us rib-tickling moments with his one liners. In his own words: 'Men for me are 'K'; women for me are 'O'. I refer to couples as 'OK'!' There's the grumpy, agent-of-hardly-any-words, K (Tommy Lee Jones), and tales of his heroic deeds and achievements that have been saving planet Earth. And above all, there are aliens, once again seen as our next-door friendly refugees who are still using New York as their hideout from mean intergalactic creatures.

Arjun: The Warrior Prince 2012: Movie Review

Thank God! This is one swayamvar that rightly doesn't have the scandal, sleaze and controversy that ups channel TRPs. And we love our Gods for this very reason; even the powers that be turns into colour-coordinated animated stars for our delight. This one is the original; the rest is a mish-mashed concoction of unimaginative minds. Hey bhagwan!

The epic story comes stunningly alive on the canvas of Panchala, where Arjun participates in Draupadi's swayamvar, and quite breathtakingly spears the fish's eye with his dhanush. This scene is spectacular and sets the mood for the film, even makes you hopeful about India's animation industry, struggling to grab attention. The almost 3D-like dive, an underwater sequence and the detailing - superbly impressive.

Chhota Bheem And The Curse Of Damyaan 2012 Movie Review

ham, jham, jhambhura! Now we know why our tweeny lot always maange more of Chhota Bheem. After all, our hero can do anything and everything that every Bollywood mainstream hero does. Chhota Bheem can save the girls from being kidnapped. Chhota Bheem can fight a dozen of bad guys at the same time. Chhota Bheem can fight tigers and snakes. And, most importantly, Chhota Bheem knows how to be in sync with the time - he can play (and win) the T20 cricket tournament in town. Not to miss out is his looks: Chhota Bheem is a hit with girls in his kingdom(He looks rather cute), and has a couple of pretty things hitting on him!

Now for the movie. Talk of animation and it's bright and colourful, though not really sharp.

Love Recipe 2012 :Movie Review

At the interval point in this film you hear a song interval hai interval bhaag ke jaa aur jaldi se aa. I wished I could run away and never come back for the rest of this film.

This love recipe has a villain who has a headphone stuck to his head all the time and sings old Hindi film songs which will make even the worst Indian idol contestant very proud of his/her singing. He goes by the name of Music Ali and is supposed to be a terrorist. There is also a prosthetic head floating around throughout the film from one hand to another and is thrown around like a football in the climax set against a group of chorus singers singing crore crore pacchaas crore. Then there is Sanjay Narvekar doing an
embarrassingly bad impersonation of Rajnikanth. He even gets to showcase his nonexistent dance skills on a south style dance number. If you find all of the above mentioned things funny trust me, watching it on screen is a different experience altogether.

LOVE, WRINKLE-FREE 2012 Movie Review

Who said sex has anything to do with anti-wrinkle creams? Uplifts or artificial 'jobs'? Madonna was pregnant at 42. Charlie Chaplin fathered a child at 73. Even our pleasantly plump Annie Monterio (Shernaz Patel) gets a 'little' pregnant at forty-six. After years of prayers, and divine intervention (actually the missionary position) she is blessed with her 'labour of love', a second child; the first is an adopted teenager, Ruth, who wonders why her parents didn't use a condom in the first place.

Rakhtbeej 2012 Movie Review

I walked in with utter dread into the movie hall screening this film. But nothing prepard me for what lay ahead. I had thought that films like these were laid to rest in the 90s or atleast never made it out of the B & C centres. Rakhtbeej should be commended for escaping all that but that's about the only praise I can lavish on it.

Yeh Khula Aasmaan 2012 Movie Review

With the surfacing of quality logical cinema, the film industry is no longer about mainstream masala movies. YEH KHULA AASMAAN is yet another film that intends to stir the soul with a heartwarming tale.

YEH KHULA AASMAAN deals with imperative matters of our life, besides bringing back the spirit of kite flying, a great Indian tradition since many generations. The film also attempts to tell the viewer that there are no failures, only setbacks, and one needs to move forward. The message, told in the most subtle manner, does come across effectively in the closing stages.

Big B in The Great Gatsby Trailer | Plot | Info

Unlike Anil Kapoor who did not feature in the first trailer of MI:4, Amitabh Bachchan's 'blink-and-miss' performance has been given prominence in the trailer of his debut Hollywood movie The Great Gatsby.

The actor looks dapper in a grey coloured suit teamed with a white hat. He  looks classic as he sports a beard and moustache.
"I still do not have the liberty to talk of the film in a personal capacity. Contracts bind me, but this I can say that it was a sheer delight to work with someone of such great genius as Baz Luhrmann and a host of co-stars that have astronomical presence in the world of cinema - Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire and the other greats," Amitabh posted on his blog bigb.bigadda.com.

Ishaqzaade Weekend Box-Office: Rs 16 Crore

Ishaqzaade was clearly the first choice of all cine-goers once it released on 11 May and took a good start all over. If the morning shows sent out positive signals, evening and night shows were even better, hence ensuring that rest of the weekend was bountiful as well. It was expected that the film would take a 50% opening and see better footfalls if accepted. This was exactly the case as the Habib Faisal directed affair collected close to Rs. 16 crore in its first three days which, as far as one remembers, is the best start that a film featuring a debutant has ever taken.
Arjun Kapoor, who didn’t quite make a flashy entry into Bollywood and had a faux pas in the form of Virus Diwan (which never got made and was shelved in favour of Ishaqzaade), is clearly the new toast of the town as his natural act has been appreciated all over.

Mr. Bhatti On Chutti: Movie Review

Anupam Kher's long-delayed MR. BHATTI ON CHUTTI has finally hit the screens. The reports doing the rounds is that MR. BHATTI ON CHUTTI is a desi replication of MR. BEAN'S HOLIDAY, with the central character modeled on the peculiar Englishman made legendary by Rowan Atkinson. Of course, our Mr. Bhatti is a cheerful Punjabi, who, unlike his equivalent, doesn't head for Cannes, but England.

A similar meaning title [MR. BHATTI ON CHUTTI and MR. BEAN'S HOLIDAY], both [Anupam Kher, Rowan Atkinson] embarking on a holiday after having won a free trip, both the characters experiencing a misadventure while on their holiday… the similarities cannot be ignored. Of course, Karan Razdan has changed the story to suit the Indian sensibilities, but the quintessence remains the same.

For a really long time, he has been attempting the kind of movies he aspires to make, with not much concern for the BO. The uneven response to his last few films at the ticket window hasn't shaken the confidence that viewers have in his abilities. His past few films were nowhere close to SHIVA, RANGEELA, SATYA, COMPANY, BHOOT, SARKAR, SARKAR RAJ and RAKTA CHARITRA-I, but regardless of the BO outcome, Ramgopal Varma is one film-maker who continues to make movies that he believes in.

The Forest: Movie Review

Pvr is releasing movies under an initiative called Directors Rare. Most of these are movies that were stuck in the cans waiting for a release. This year they have already released Chaurahen and Good Night Good Morning. The forest is yet another one from that stable. I had seen this movie on a Dvd way back in 2009 but quite frankly had forgotten it so had to see it again to review it.

Whats it about? A married couple Ankur Vikal (fantastic in Maqbool and Striker) and Nandana Sen visit a forest to sort things out between them. They meet Javed Jaafri who is an ex flame of Nandanas. A love triangle starts playing out while a man eating leopard is on the prowl.

The Raid: Redemption: Movie Review

Its been a long time since a full blown film on martial arts has hit the screens. A genre made popular by the Hongkong film industry back in the 80s, martial arts films have given us many gems like "Enter The Dragon" and stars like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. But over the years when video games took over, such films saw a decline in production. Though still a popular genre in South-East Asia with Thailand and Malaysia leading the charge along with Hongkong, martial arts films became cliched just like the chinamen starring in them. The Raid Redemption attempts to bring back that initial euphoria that many a fanboy still feel.

The Indonesian film pays homage to Silat, a knife throwing quick strike form of martial arts from the region. It then runs it through the grind of the "Die Hard" series, shooting it all in just in one building, going up and down the floors. There is enough action, blood and gore to scare your mamma but a plotless storyline and some poor English dubbing ruin what could otherwise have been a thrilling experience. The film feels more like an instructional video on how a SWAT team functions or perhaps the film version of the video game "Modern Warfare". No enough meat in either to qualify for cinema.

Dark Shadows: Movie Review

Auteur director Tim Burtons newest collaboration with long time favorite Johnny Depp, Dark Shadows is a harrowing effort in story-telling despite coming from a revered filmmaker of Burtons caliber.

A spin-off on the TV show that went by the same name and which aired on the ABC network during the late 60s, Burtons version of the then-inventive series is overtly theatrical without an engaging narrative. Better known for his gloriously decorative aesthetic sensibilities, the film leaves no grievances on its imagery but it is the underdeveloped and largely uninteresting characters who come in together to make a melodrama which is both tedious and terrible.

Ishaqzaade :Movie Review

Habib Faisal's directorial debut DO DOONI CHAAR, starring Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor, depicted the aspirations of a middle-class family. It won immense critical acclaim, appreciation of the viewers and the Best Hindi Film National Award. Now his second film ISHAQZAADE has generated tremendous buzz thanks to its raw and edgy trailers, likable music and also for its setting -- the Hindi belt where guns still reign supreme. And you aren't disappointed either, for the film meets the lofty expectations, assuring you that the 2+ hours were well worth it!

Yash Raj Films returns to the era of action after a hiatus, but they have not done away with their core USP, romance, as ISHAQZAADE is a passionate love story, which is the emphasizing theme of the film. In fact, ISHAQZAADE is not only about aggression and romance, you also get a glimpse of the arrogance and conceit of people in small towns in India.

Emraan to play a magician in Ek Thi Daayan

Emraan Hashmi is ready to let the magic begin. And that's meant in quite a literal sense. In Vishal Bhardwaj's Ek Thi Daayan, Emraan plays a magician. And he's not going to leave any stone unturned to ensure he looks convincing performing the magician's tricks.

Going the way of Hrithik Roshan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish, Emraan would be learning magic tricks from one of the foremost magicians of the country before performing them on screen.

Says our source from the project's core team, "It's very simple, really. Emraan doesn't want trick photography to be used for his magician's part in Ek Thi Daayan. He wants all the magic tricks on screen to look, to BE, real. Vishal Bhardwaj has decided to hire one of India's topmost magicians, whom we won't like to name at the moment, to teach Emraan some really intricate magical tricks."

Mastering the magical maneuverings would only be part of Emraan's preparations in Ek Thi Daayan. He also needs to probe deep into the psychology of a delusional character. Says our source from the team, "Emraan's character 'sees things'. We don't know till the end if his visions are real or imagined. Emraan has to understand the psyche of a delusional man before he can convincingly play a man who sees things that others can't. It's a tough role."

Making it tougher is the fact that the film is also about witchcraft. The film has an interesting background. It was a short story written by Aparna Sen's ex-husband, journalist Mukul Sharma. Says our source, "Vishal loved the story and asked Mukul Sharma to develop it into a full-fledged screenplay. The short story became an 80-page novella. And then the screenplay for Ek Thi Daayan."

Emraan's character of the delusional magician is based on Mukul Shama's own encounter with occultism, a world that Emraan is trying to get familiar with.
